Overview Starting in 2025, the Institute of Marine Sciences and Limnology of the Universidad del Valle (INCIMAR) in Colombia and the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in Germany will join forces to establish COLDEMAR, a partnership addressing the climate and marine biodiversity nexus for Colombia’s prosperity. The set up and consolidation of this partnership are funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) from Feb 2025 to Jan 2030. As crucial engines of this partnership, we are hiring a Partnership Manager and a Technical Assistant both to be based in Cali, Colombia. During the funding period, both are expected to work together under the direction of two co-PIs (Zapata and Bejarano) and on i) establishing shared research spaces at UniValle, ii) identifying joint research lines between INCIMAR and ZMT groups, iii) facilitating joint pilot research projects and designing a data management plan, iv) deepening and expanding the scientific networks of both partners, v) developing a joint scientific communication strategy, and vi) designing a concept for the partnership to function self-sustainably beyond the funding period. While the Partnership Manager is responsible for leading the timely development of all set-up and consolidation deliverables, the Technical Assistant is expected to provide essential technical and logistical support. Ultimately, both will play an instrumental role in developing the partnership’s long-term capacity to i) investigate key physical, biological, and anthropogenic processes affecting coastal and marine ecosystems in Colombia considering nature-based solutions within strategies for biodiversity preservation, ii) improve national and regional climate change predictions through an integrated assessment of the impacts of environmental change on coastal social-ecological systems, iii) provide robust scientific bases to co-develop sustainability pathways with decision makers and coastal communities, considering conservation, sustainable resource use, and restoration interventions, thus strengthening Colombia’s strategic capacity to cope with, and adapt to, biodiversity loss, climate change, and human development. 2. Primary purpose of the Partnership Manager role Implement all aspects of the strategy to set up, implement, and consolidate a fully functional, self-sustainable long term partnership between INCIMAR and ZMT under the direction of the co-PIs. 3. Key accountabilities of the Partnership Manager ·Assist the co-PIs and the partnership steering committee in the implementation of all administrative and technical aspects of the inter-institutional partnership. ·Maintain regular transparent communication among the German and Colombian co-PIs and members of the partnership steering committee (i.e., 3-to-4 meetings per year). ·Maintain close communication with INCIMAR’s and ZMT’s administration to keep an accurate overview of the partnership funds (spent and remaining). ·Open and maintain active channels of communication between ZMT and INCIMAR researchers to facilitate the development of joint research proposals and projects. ·Assist the co-PIs in writing of cooperation agreements that will guide the functioning of the partnership. ·Lead the set-up of common office and laboratory spaces for COLDEMAR at UniValle as well as quality control processes for laboratory procedures. ·Maintain active channels of communication between Lab technicians at ZMT and INCIMAR to facilitate laboratory training and capacity development. ·Oversee the timely development of all activities of the partnership (e.g., workshops, Early Career Researchers’ training schools, pilot research) and the corresponding deliverables. ·Co-develop with both partners (ZMT and INCIMAR) a joint data management plan (for data generated within the partnership) and a joint third-party funding strategy. ·Design a joint communication strategy for the partnership, including a social media engagement plan, and coordinate the creation and update of a joint partnership webpage. ·Maintain good relations and proactively work on developing fruitful collaborations with other marine science institutes in Germany and Colombia including other German-Colombian partnerships (e.g., CEMarin, CAPAZ). ·Support the co-PIs in the development of the concept and strategy for a self-sustaining partnership operative beyond the funding period. 4.
