Job summary: As a Senior Specialist in the Technical team for Sustainable Technologies (ST) Climate Projects, your main responsibility will be managing a portfolio of carbon projects. These projects focus on renewable energy, BESS energy efficiency, methane, cement, waste technologies, biochar, and environmental certificates like IRECs. Your key role will involve overseeing the entire cycle of carbon project development in LATAM and ensuring that emission reductions are generated and delivered efficiently and on time. You will be working on projects that aim to promote carbon credits and accelerate global climate action, which will span voluntary and compliance markets under Article 6.2 and 6.4 (PACM). You will ensure project implementation as agreed while delivering high-quality deliverables such as project documents and monitoring reports. You will participate in business rounds, technical sessions, site visits, and other relevant events. Reporting to the Regional Associate Director, you will ensure timely issuance of credits throughout all stages of the project cycle, while adhering to budgetary constraints and maintaining clear and effective communication with project partners. In addition to leading, you will coordinate efforts with other technical collaborators within the ST technical team. You will also support the regional commercial team and project-sourcing activities to assess incoming opportunities. Your success in this role will depend on your ability to ensure the highest quality standards across South Pole’s ST projects while managing internal and external relationships. You will support the relationships with project partners, standards, regulatory bodies, stakeholders, and other relevant entities. Main tasks & responsibilities: Assist the Regional Lead in developing and managing the technical, financial, and administrative components of Sustainable Technologies (ST) projects within the LatAm pipeline. Ensure the completion of all project cycle steps, including information gathering, due diligence, drafting feasibility studies, creating project design documents, and providing validation, monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) support according to various standards. Ensure adherence to all aspects defined by relevant national or international certification standards (e.g., UNFCCC, Gold Standard, VERRA, as well as national or local standards such as Biocarbon and Cercarbono), along with South Pole’s project development and implementation policies and guidelines. Collaborate with team members to meet commitments to partners and communities involved in ongoing projects. Support and coordinate with the commercial team in the technical assessment and business development of pipeline leads and opportunities, while also assisting in developing consultancy proposals and deliverables. Identify and report risks associated with ST projects, covering technical, social, and financial aspects, while promptly providing feasible solutions. Adhere to internal policies and procedures regarding the use of our internal project management tool for maintaining general information, milestones, and cash flow, ensuring harmony among all stakeholders involved in the organization (e.g., accounting, registries, project managers, HR, commercial teams, and other internal and external stakeholders). Ability to implement projects by keeping the team informed on the project's progress, responsible for ensuring the quality of deliverables, and financial viability in the implementation of projects. Keep general information, dedicated folders, milestones, and cash flow up to date. Support the regional lead in managing invoices for approval and timely payment. Engage with all stakeholders (project owners, partners, communities, validation and verification bodies, and local/regional authorities) to achieve ST project objectives. Act as a key point of contact in managing project partners alongside the commercial team, nurturing relationships, and maximizing value from existing and new opportunities. Plan and organize site visits and other business trips as necessary. Identify and prioritize tasks based on project needs, considering schedules and budgets. Staying informed about updates to methodologies for carbon offset projects and compliance market regulations. Fulfil any other responsibilities deemed necessary for the role. Requirements: Essential - University degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy, Sustainability, or related field. Possessing a minimum of 3 years of experience in project management in renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable energy, waste to energy, cement sector. Track record of developing and implementing carbon reduction strategies. Knowledge of carbon accounting methodologies and tools. Experience with carbon standards. Demonstrate the ability to tackle diverse assignments, applying company policies, processes, and procedures to resolve complex project-related issues independently while making informed decisions. Excellent communication skills, the ability to produce high-quality written documents, and proficiency in both verbal and written English and Spanish are also essential. Display capacity to coordinate multiple projects concurrently according to company and project requirements, while maintaining high standards in time management and quality of work. Manage projects effectively, focusing on planning and monitoring, particularly emphasizing technical and financial aspects, while adopting a transdisciplinary approach to team management. Desirable - Possess knowledge and experience in project management and environmental credits markets, including carbon, along with familiarity with local and international certification standards. 2+ years experience in cement industry, with a focus on sustainability, carbon management or project development. Experience with low carbon technologies in cement sector, including clinker substitution and waste heat recovery. Familiarity with accreditation standards and requirements, particularly those related to carbon offsetting and climate action initiatives such as ICVCM’s CCP, CORSIA, and ICROA. Exhibit experience in utilizing budgeting and financial planning tools and understanding related concepts. Display proficiency with MS Office applications, particularly MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Google Suite. Possess the ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
