This is an opportunity for atechnical engineering manager passionate about open sourcesoftware, Linux, containers, security, and the developerexperience, to shape the future of Linux from the smallest systemsup to desktops. This challenging role demands a high degree oftechnical and management skill. Our mission is to allow everyone tobuild robust solutions in various fields including but not limitedto IoT, automotive, and aviation using the next generation secureembedded Linux operating system in a simple solution. We define areliable and secure set of device recovery mechanisms that enabledevice manufacturers to simplify and standardise the fieldoperations for fleets of heterogeneous appliances. As anengineering manager, you'll lead a team of strong softwaredevelopers to design and implement Ubuntu Core system software onvarious CPU architectures, such as ARM, RISC-V, and X86. You willmeet stakeholders, prioritize requests, plan the roadmap and ensurethe team can deliver their goals. You will have the opportunity toinfluence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work withyour team on strategy and execution. What you'll do - You willbuild and lead a distributed team of engineers through hiring,coaching, mentoring, feedback and hands-on career development - Youwill demonstrate sound engineering principles by directlycontributing toward your team's goals - Support timely delivery oftechnical solutions to address business needs - Effectively set andmanage expectations with other engineering teams, seniormanagement, and external stakeholders - Advocate and advancemodern, agile software development practices and help develop andevangelize great engineering and organizational practices - Grow ahealthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the companyvalues - Be an active part of the leadership team and collaboratewith other leaders in the organisation - Work from home with globaltravel twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for company events Whoyou are - You love technology and working with brilliant people -You are curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable - You lovedeveloping and growing people and have a track record of doing it -You are knowledgeable and passionate about software development -You have experience in leading, managing, coaching and mentoringsoftware developers - You are comfortable planning and executing todeliver timely, high quality software - You have solid experienceworking in an agile development environment - You have a Bachelor'sor equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree - Youhave experience with embedded software - You have experience withGolang, C/C++, and Shell - You have a solid understanding of Linuxand a modern GNU/Linux distribution, Debian or Ubuntu preferred Weare proud to foster a workplace free from discrimination.
