Blackboard’s legal team supports all aspects of Blackboard’s business operations globally, including commercial relationships, strategic initiatives, risk management and compliance functions. The team works closely with business units across the company. Reporting to the Global Privacy Officer (who is based in London), the Associate Corporate Counsel - Privacy will serve as an important privacy expert within the company’s dynamic and highly experienced legal team. This position will work across functional areas and will be responsible for supporting the Global Privacy Officer and the wider Legal team in privacy and security advisory matters and with the ongoing build-out of Blackboard’s data privacy program. Specific responsibilities will include: - Drafting and negotiating agreements with vendors, customers, partners, and consultants - Leading and assisting with data privacy program projects such as data mapping, DPIAs and AI Ethics framework - Advising business units on strategic issues, new projects, and cutting-edge technology - Developing and maintaining client-facing data privacy publications and responding to enquiries from clients and individuals - Managing the privacy by design process and documentation - Conducting vendor and partner privacy due diligence reviews - Tracking new data privacy and security laws, court cases, and other developments globally (including US) and communicating them internally and externally - Researching privacy issues and drafting memos as appropriate - Required skills/qualifications:_ - 2-4 years’ relevant experience at a law firm or in-house - Qualified lawyer in Colombia - Excellent academic credentials - Deep knowledge of local and good knowledge of global privacy laws - Experience drafting and negotiating contracts - Excellent legal research, analytical, writing, judgment, and decision-making skills - Excellent communication skills, both oral and written - Self-direction, confidence, and initiative, as well as the ability to work with a global team to achieve goals and objectives - A strong attention to detail, commitment to quality work product, and client service skills - Ability to multi-task in an organized manner in a fast-paced environment - Fluency in written and spoken English at CEF B2 level or above - Preferred skills/qualifications:_ - Experience in GDPR and US data privacy laws - Experience in technology sectors - Experience in developing data privacy programs **The Office**: Blackboard has an office located in Bogota, Colombia as a hub for the LAC market. - Located in Capital Towers center in the financial district - Excellent and secure area to eat lunch, have a walk, or dine after office hours - Benefits in prepaid medicine, dental plan, and wellness allowance - Easy access to public transportation close to two important avenues, Carrera 7 and Calle 100 - Free parking for employees and paid parking for visitors - Multiple private spaces for virtual and face-to-face meetings - Regular events like bring your dog to work day and ping-pong, foosball, and Mario Kart tournaments - Sodexo card provided for employees - Daily budget to spend on beverage vending machines - Learn more about the Bogota office culture by checking out our Facebook page - Option for remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic This job description is not designed to contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required.
