Job Description: * DUTIES AND **RESPONSIBILITIES** - Incumbent conducts investigations, to include: personnel security & suitability investigations, criminal investigations, and others as directed by the Regional Security Officer (RSO). - The incumbent conducts full field background investigations of Narcotics Affairs Section (INL SECTION) personnel, as assigned by the RSO. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing assigned cases, determining suitable investigative steps, conducting interviews, and coordinating appropriate records checks as part of the information gathering process in order to obtain any required information or evidence. Based on an analysis of completed interviews, records checks, and information gathered, and in consultation with the RSO, the incumbent may expand an investigation to develop an accurate and comprehensive record of the facts. The incumbent will compile this information into complete, concise reports for final review by the RSO and take any necessary action as required. The incumbent will ensure any assigned investigations are included in the database for future references. - Duties include following and monitoring policies, instructions, procedures, control systems, and methods for such functions and activities such as: Create a filing record system that will protect the confidentiality and security of all applicants as well as the INL internal information included in these files. **Job Requirements**: **MINIMUM **QUALIFICATIONS** **EDUCATION** Two years of college level education is required. **LANGUAGE **LEVEL**: - Spanish: Level 4 - Fluent - English: Level 2 **EXPERIENCE**: Five years of experience in security, law enforcement operations, or investigative work is preferred. **KNOWLEDGE** OF: * In order to provide advice to INL Management and RSO the incumbent requires the following: - Expertise of Colombian investigative procedures and Colombian law; knowledge in the conduct of investigations, protection and collection of information and evidence. - Sound judgment to analyze and interpret the significance of information and events is required. **SKILLS **IN**: - The use of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and standard office equipment. - High customer service skills are required to communicate with all parties involved in this process. - Good writing, interpersonal and organizational skills. - Proficiency in typing. **ABILITY **TO**: - Be highly effective in interpersonal relations with all Mission and host country agencies. - Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the Spanish and English languages. - Ability to effectively manage possible confrontational situations during the investigation process. Ability to prioritize and work effectively in multiple tasks and projects in a high-stress environment. **PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB AND WORKING **ENVIRONMENT**: - Entails regular daily work at US Embassy located in Bogota. - Hours for the position will be a minimum of 40 hours per week; overtime can be authorized depending on workload.
