Hiring Department The University of Missouri School of Medicine Department of Surgery Job Description The Department of Surgery at the University of Missouri has an opportunity for medical scribes in the Division of General Surgery. This position will assist with facilitating patient flow and ensuring an accurate and complete medical record for each patient. Description of job duties primarily include: Accompany physician and/or advance practice provider (APP) into the patient examination room when appropriate to transcribe history and physical exam, and document encounters accurately. List all diagnoses, symptoms, follow-up instructions, and prescriptions as dictated by the physician/APP. Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc. Chart provider/patient encounters in real time. Document procedures performed by the physician/APP. Support care delivery by assisting with laboratory orders, patient referrals, and other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Skills required: Knowledge of medical terminology. Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record details. Computer proficiency and ability to learn new applications quickly. Legible handwriting and accurate record-keeping. Organizational skills focused on tracking patient care and improving flow. Professional demeanor with awareness of privacy considerations. Shift Work hours: Monday through Friday, 4-hour consecutive shifts. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; six months experience as a Medical Scribe or related experience/training, or equivalent education and experience.
