The Interim Worship Leader is a part-time position tasked with planning, preparing for, and leading a weekly traditional worship service, promoting authentic worship, and proclaiming the message of Christ. Primary Objectives and Responsibilities LEADERSHIP Lead the congregation in worship and direct the flow of service. This includes coordination with the media team, ushers, and deacons. Develop a weekly order of service in coordination with the Pastor. Facilitate a weekly rehearsal with the choir and orchestra to prepare quality worship on Sundays. Recruit, screen and/or develop new musicians and singers. ABILITIES Skilled in vocal and instrumental direction. Can proficiently play the keyboard. Quality singing voice and engaging and energetic stage presence. Team player with good relational skills. Familiarity with the Baptist Hymnal. Self-starter who strives for quality. VOLUNTEERS Work collaboratively with organist, pianist, orchestra and the Pastor in selecting songs and leading worship. Recruit, screen and train new volunteers. Provide edification and discipleship among volunteers. GENERAL Have a heart and desire for leading people in traditional worship. Devote time to finding, learning and introducing worship songs that are consistent with Scripture and SHBC’s statement of beliefs. Protect the unity and culture of volunteers and staff and have fun doing it. Lead worship at intermittent special events or services as needed (ex: combined worship services, Good Friday worship services, church-wide musicals). PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS Pursue a personal, daily walk with Jesus. Prior experience planning, preparing, and leading traditional worship services. Understand group dynamics and demonstrate ability to build consensus among varying personality types. Solid biblical / theological convictions which align with SHBC’s statement of faith. Must be an effective communicator and team builder. RELATES TO: Reports to the Senior Pastor. FOR ALL CANDIDATES: This is a part-time position paid on a bi-weekly salary. The position is based on completion of the assigned responsibilities. Expect between 10-20 hours per week.
