SEI Latin America is one of seven SEI centres, a leadingresearch institute focused on sustainable development. SEI’smission is to support decision-making and induce change byproviding integrative knowledge that bridges science, policy andpractice in the field of environment and development. As CentreDirector, you will lead SEI Latin America’s strategic direction,shape its research agenda, build partnerships and strengthen SEI’spresence in Latin America. You will work closely with theleadership team at SEI Headquarters in Stockholm and with other Centre Directors in SEI’s Global Management Committee. The roleoffers the opportunity to engage in a high-level scientificenvironment, creating opportunities to advance sustainabledevelopment in the region. You will be part of a multidisciplinaryand multicultural team, fostering collaboration and diverseperspectives to address key environmental challenges. About SEILatin America SEI Latin America is SEI’s youngest research centre. Established in Bogotá in 2018, it has since grown rapidly to becomea regional centre of excellence for research and engagement on keysustainable development issues in the region. The centre is acollaborative and growing community of approximately 35 researchersand support staff who conduct rigorous research, engage with keystakeholders, translate knowledge into action, and build capacityin critical areas such as water resources, climate and energy,pollution, nature, natural resources and the 2030 Agenda. Ourresearch teams continuously innovate to develop specializedresearch areas in response to emerging challenges. The role TheCentre Director plays a pivotal role in advancing SEI LatinAmerica’s mission and strategic objectives. This role encompassesfive key areas: - Strategic leadership: lead SEI Latin America’sstrategy and roadmap in alignment with SEI’s global strategy. Thisincludes setting the strategic direction, overseeing organizationalplanning and execution, budgeting, results reporting and ensuringthe centre’s financial sustainability and administrativeefficiency. - People management: recruit, lead and develop thecentre’s employees. The Centre Director will foster a collaborativeand high-performing work environment while overseeingorganizational, management and employee-related matters inalignment with SEI’s mission, strategy and values. - Partnershipdevelopment: facilitate knowledge-sharing and relationship buildingwith key partners. This includes establishing and strengtheningpartnerships with funders, policymakers and institutional partnersat local, national and regional levels and ensuring that policyrecommendations are channelled effectively to the right audiences. The Director will actively participate in conferences, seminars andpolicy discussions to enhance SEI’s visibility, impact and networkin the region. - Resource mobilization: oversee resourcemobilization and donor relations to increase and diversify funding. Ensure research outputs are of the highest quality by coachingresearchers in developing excellent proposals and fosteringengagement with partners and donors. - Global integration: as amember of SEI’s global management team, contribute to SEI’s globalstrategic development, report directly to the SEI ExecutiveDirector, and play a leading role in shaping SEI’s presence andinfluence in Latin America. Key responsibilities - Deliver SEI’sstrategy 2025-2029 at SEI Latin America, working closely with allSEI centres. - Oversee and drive the implementation of allorganizational matters at the centre, ensuring financialsustainability and administrative efficiency. - Manage the centre’semployees and operations, ensuring the development andimplementation of all policies and procedures. - Lead research,organizational development and resource mobilization, contributingto a strong, visible and lasting project portfolio in alignmentwith SEI’s global strategy. - Promote and strengthen the centre aspart of “One SEI”, fostering collaboration and integration betweenSEI teams to enhance synergies, creativity and impact within SEI’sresearch and policy network in the region. Who you are You are anexperienced leader with a strong background in environmentalsustainability and development. You bring excellent leadershipskills and can engage, empower and support employees to grow SEILatin America. You can provide clear direction, delegateeffectively and build trusting professional relationships. You haveseveral years of experience in leadership, people management andstrategy development and implementation. Qualifications andexperience - Master’s degree (or higher) in a relevant field. -Recognized expertise in research related to at least one of SEI’sstrategy areas. - Senior experience in a knowledge-based orresearch organization. - Demonstrated experience in leadership andpeople management. - Proven track record of significant resourcemobilization for research and/or development. - Experience instrategy development and implementation. - Excellent English and Spanish language skills, both spoken and written.
