The anticipated salary range for hire is $59,592.00 - $87,505.60 annually based on experience. The top of the range for salary advancement is $101,296.00. Classes in this series perform a wide variety of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled work in all phases of the operation, maintenance, repair, and light construction activities associated with wastewater collection systems, wastewater treatment, and wastewater disposal systems; and perform other related work as required per the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) regulatory board permits (Title 23 of the California Code of Regulations). Incumbents may work in one or more of the following areas: wastewater collection systems; wastewater treatment operations; disposal, discharge and/or reclamation; wastewater storage operations, pump stations, force mains, and associated systems to ensure regulatory discharge and/or reclaimed water discharge requirements are met. The Wastewater Utilities Division seeks professional individuals who can perform as Wastewater Systems Workers in the I through III level with a passion for public service and who enjoy working in this field. The ideal candidate will have experience operating Advanced Water Reclamation facilities and Sewer Collections Systems with autonomous operational decision-making to meet pre-set operating parameters. The ideal candidate will also possess strong collaboration, communication, and organization skills and strong initiative, which will be key components to the position's success. The position requires a strong commitment to workplace safety activities, practices, and standards. We seek someone who can empower others and promote teamwork and collaboration. The ideal Wastewater Systems Worker must be able to work on different systems and adjust quickly with a positive attitude to unexpected job priorities. Education and Experience All levels: Graduation from high school or possession of a general educational development (GED) certificate. Wastewater Systems Worker I: One year of qualifying experience as a wastewater treatment plant operator or equivalent in accordance with the SWRCB (Chapter 26, Title 23 of the California Code of Regulations). Wastewater Systems Worker II: Two years of experience as Wastewater Systems Worker I or equivalent in accordance with the SWRCB (Chapter 26, Title 23 of the California Code of Regulations). Wastewater Systems Worker III: Three years of experience as a Wastewater Systems Worker II or equivalent in accordance with the SWRCB (Chapter 26, Title 23 of the California Code of Regulations). Licenses and Certificates Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Wastewater Systems Worker I: Possession of a valid SWRCB Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I Certification or equivalent. Within 24 months of appointment must possess a SWRCB Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certification, which must be maintained throughout employment. Wastewater Systems Worker II: Possession of a valid SWRCB Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certification or equivalent. Within 36 months of appointment must possess a SWRCB Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade III Certification, which must be maintained throughout employment. Wastewater Systems Worker III: Possession of a valid SWRCB Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade III or higher Certification or equivalent, which must be maintained throughout employment.
