Here are the challenges you will face and the requirements we are looking for: Position Title: Accounting Specialist What you will be doing : The Accounting Specialist supports the Accounting Team’s objectives by executing financial processes and preparing financial documents in accordance with basic General Ledger accounting procedures and FEMA requirements as well as participating in project completion and problem resolution. This role contributes to NFS’ overall success by engaging in the pursuit of continuous improvement while accurately, timely and consistently meeting and exceeding client needs. Preparing and balancing monthly reconciliations for client accounts. Preparing and uploading monthly FEMA/NFIP financial statements, exhibits, and reconciliations. Preparing, approving and posting general ledger journal entries. Processing financial activities in response to colleague requests. Calculating and processing bank transfers. Printing, voiding, re-issuing and staling checks. Balancing accounts in NFS’ financial management software. Calculating required Letters of Credit and verifying drawdown of funds. Handling internal and external mail. Participating in procedure development and process improvement. Cross training within team. Setting and pursuing individual goals/professional development. Participating in setting and pursuing team goals. Skills & Experience Required: CMA or CPA preferred. 1+ years of accounting experience. High level of attention to detail and accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Employ a positive approach to team and individual goals and objectives. Ability to make decisions and problem-solve using experience, resources and professional judgment. Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team. Ability to learn and adapt to new programs, applications and procedures. Keying alpha and numeric information with accuracy. Proficiency using a computer and standard software applications. Minimal overtime work may be required periodically. Physical Expectations: Position requires the ability to hear and communicate clearly, orally and in writing. Uses vision to view screens, create and review documents; requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
